Profiles in Music
Profiles in music is only a few short weeks away. Get your tickets today. This show will sell out.
To the Lancers: I attended the big showcase at the Pullo Center on Saturday night. I was thrilled by all the performances, and amazed at the talents displayed there. I was amazed that the Drum Corps units included people aged from students to 80+ years.
I didn’t know the Lancers (among others) had some soprano players that shrieked as high as Maynard Ferguson used to do.
The Marine Corps showed excellent precision in their performances of Sousa marches. When they played “Stars and Stripes Forever” and got to the finale of that piece, they used their marimbas to play the high notes usually played by a piccolo. Very clever.
I was pleased to see the Hawthorne Caballeros again. Many years ago, they were among my favorite drum corps to watch in field competitions. It was fun to see them in their classic uniforms and to listen to the Latin-based tunes they played.
And of course the Lancers charmed us with “Maria” and lastly, “Sweet Caroline,” which drew audience participation. Outstanding!! The Hanover Lancers have a history that dates back to 1920. Are there any older Drum Corps in the country? I never knew its founding date until I read the 75-year Anniversary Yearbook.
Keep up the good work. Jim Myers (Hanover Legion Corps, 1956-1958)
Thank you so much!! We are so glad you enjoyed the performances of all the groups that night. This is an email I will be sure to share with the entire corps!!
